A team from Group Finance recently took over a GCSE Business Studies class for their team building day, as part of our volunteering partnership with York Cares.
With just two hours’ notice, the team designed an engaging session which saw the students having to pitch to a panel for money to invest in their fictitious sandwich stall.
The team coached 35 students, aged between 14 and 15 years old, at Joseph Rowntree secondary school during the two hour session. The students were encouraged to think about a broad range of commercial and finance questions that need to be considered as part of a business investment.
Lisa Chalk, Head of Generating Demand Support, said; “This was a great experience and opportunity for us to challenge ourselves as a team and to spend some time with our future talent pool. The students were engaged. They came up with some very innovative ideas and each group delivered a competent pitch. I think both us and the students learnt a lot from the exercise! Particularly that, if you pull together as a team, a lot can be achieved in a short space of time and new tasks are generally not as daunting as they may seem at the start.”
