New faces at the Big Community Challenge

Some of our newest members took time out of their hectic days at the Big Community Challenge to explain to us why it’s so important to get involved and how they’ve found their first experiences with York Cares.

A team member from ADVA at West Bank Park, Susan Oliver, told us how important it was to recognise that helping out in the community was “not just about raising money”, relishing the opportunity to donate her time and energy to an event like the Big Community Challenge. Susan added what a brilliant opportunity the day had been to strengthen their team outside of the office, working alongside colleagues in a totally different environment.

Sky Lakey also commented how the challenge was a perfect opportunity to bring together her team of employees from Omnicom Engineering and how the challenge fitted with the company’s individual priorities: “Omnicom has always supported York where possible with regards to recruitment and suppliers, so giving back to our community with York Cares is part of that ethos. I think that it helps with team building but also helps with morale, we all felt pretty good when we left Morrell House”.

Omnicom are already eager to come back as, when asked if they were willing to take part in any future events, Sky gave an enthusiastic, “Most definitely!”

Another of our new members, Lendlease, from Hungate -a joint venture between Lendlease and Evans Property Group, sent a team to tackle an overgrown site at Osbaldwick Primary School. Steve Graham from Lendlease, enthused about working with York Cares on the Big Community Challenge as a brilliant way for the company to “to get stuck in to a project and find out what makes York tick”. The fantastic efforts of their team were hugely appreciated by the school!

Our other new members from TSP made a huge impact on their day at Rowntree Park, and are keen to continue making a real impact in their community.

A huge thank you to our wonderful new members and we can’t wait to work with you all again in the future!
