Show that York cares this Christmas!

For many vulnerable people in York struggling with poverty, mental health and homelessness, Christmas can be a very lonely a difficult time. That is why this Christmas, we want to help spread the Christmas spirit and sense of community in York through the simple act of gift giving.

York Cares’ Christmas Collections matches up local charities with groups of volunteers from organisations around York. These teams are then supplied with a wish list of items specifically requested by the charities to directly help those affected. These gifts range from blankets or toys for a young child, to tea and coffee or shampoo. Even the most essential of items can make a world of difference. It is then up to teams how they wish to collect these items or raise funds to purchase them. These gifts come as a valuable resource for local charities, and without the generosity of these volunteers, many people in York would go without opening presents on Christmas day.

In previous years Our Christmas Collections service has been hugely successful. Here’s what Jennie Ironmonger from York Housing Association had to say:

“I hope that York Cares Christmas Collection can continue to grow year after year to help others that find themselves in situations beyond their control. However small you feel the gesture is, it will mean the world to someone else, and give them hope for their future.”

We need organisations to collect for our Christmas Collections this year. If you would like to get involved and help people in need this Christmas, then email info@yorkcares.co.uk
