We’re looking for the site of 2018’s Big Community Challenge!
What is the Big Community Challenge?
We are currently looking for expressions of interest from voluntary and community groups for projects that we can support for this year’s Big Community Challenge event which will be held in the week commencing June 11th 2018.
If you think you have a project that could be the next Big Community Challenge then please be in contact!
The York Cares annual Big Community Challenge (BCC) is a 3 day event which involves volunteers, community organisations and local businesses working together to transform a local community space.
For the BCC we work with our community partner, over a 3-4 month period, to plan and prepare for the event. The challenge culminates with the practical work being completed by local business volunteers over a 3 day period in June.
The criteria for a BCC includes a project:
- That is on a site that allows public access and would benefit the wider community That has some funds to cover project costs- we would help to source materials, equipment and machinery to ensure that the project could be completed.
- Could use the support of 200 volunteers (groups of 30-40 volunteers per half day ) Involves practical manual tasks that could be completed in the 3 day period.
- That has access to drinks making and toilet facilities for volunteers at the site.
Previous Big Community Challenges venues have included: Hull Road Park, Tang Hall Community Centre,Osbaldwick Primary School, St. Paul’s CE Primary School, Windsor House and Morrell House older people’s homes, West Bank Park, Rowntree Park, Foxwood Community Centre, Bell Farm Adventure Playground and Greenfields School and Community Garden.
