York Cares Impact Report 2020
The last year has been incredibly challenging for all of us and especially those who are the most vulnerable within York.
We have all had to change our routines and daily lives in order to help stop the spread of COVID-19. This terrible virus has had an impact on families, education, jobs and our mental health. This year has highlighted the willingness to support one another and to help those in need of support. This has been demonstrated by many individuals and organisations throughout the city.
York Cares has had to adapt to working from home and start delivering content in a new format which is available online over popular platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet. In many cases, we had to suspend our programmes until August, when we started to run our Team Challenges again.
Before Christmas, we managed to deliver more Team Challenges, host our first virtual Inspiring Minds session, Starting Blocks session, and a Christmas themed party for Social Connections. We worked with FutureHY and our members to deliver an online event which hosted content such as blogs and vlogs which highlighted the many possible career paths pupils could take.
Tea and Technology, providing technology support over the phone, has proved popular and we have been receiving a number of referrals from organisations working with older people in the city. We will continue to match individuals with employee-volunteers to provide support.
A huge thank you to all of our members who helped with the Christmas Collections, you helped to spread some much needed festive cheer at what can be a difficult time of the year and was even more so for many in 2020.
We’re looking forward to continuing to develop our programmes this year and look forward to continuing to work with our fantastic employee-volunteers and their employers.
You’ll notice that we have taken a different approach this year. We hope you enjoy engaging with the new format and it would be great to hear what you think. You can contact us by emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org
