Could you share your expertise to inspire primary school children? We need employees to help children increase their literacy and numeracy and gain a broader understanding of the world of work.

Join our Right to Read scheme. Training on Thursday 8 July, 12pm – 2pm
Provide children with an invaluable opportunity to read with an adult on a one-to-one basis and see their confidence increase and their literacy develop.
Your commitment:
- One hour a week, over a lunchtime or one hour a fortnight if you share a placement
- To commit to a minimum of one academic term from September 2010
- To undertake an enhanced CRB check
Our commitment:
- To provide literacy training
- To organise your placement
Could you make finance fun?
Join our Finance in Schools programme. Initial briefing in late August/early September
Work as a team to provide children with a basic introduction to finance and help to increase their understanding of money, a key life-skill.
Your commitment:
- To attend monthly team meetings
- To deliver one or two lessons in a series of five with another volunteer (lessons are approximately one and half hours)
- To help organise a school visit to your place of work
- To commit to two academic terms from September 2010
- To undertake an enhanced CRB check
Our commitment:
- To provide a team of volunteers for you to work with
- To provide a series of general lesson plans for you to follow
Could you bring the world of work into the classroom?
Get involved with our York Cares Kids’ College Modules. Initial briefing on Monday 5 July, 4pm – 5.30pm
Link real life and learning by helping to design teaching modules which will inspire children about Travel and Transport, Food and Hospitality, the Natural World, Technology, the Media and Law and Justice.
Your commitment:
- To share your expertise and ideas
- To support a group of university students, who will co-ordinate and deliver the modules
- To organise a ‘golden moment’ which might be a visit to your workplace, a master class or a creative workshop
- To commit to a minimum of one academic term
Our commitment:
- To work with you to design the modules
- To provide you with a group of university students who have been trained in team development and project management
