Community Challenge: Employees
Volunteers will be joining York Cares at St Nicholas Fields to make exciting changes to improve the site as a great place for wildlife and the local community. St Nicholas Fields is a community space and 24 acre nature reserve located in the Tang Hall area of York. Its pioneering environment centre is the hub for green action in the city.
Between October 26 and 28, volunteers from across the city will overhaul the grounds to make them exciting and accessible to the whole community.
Why not be a part of it?
We are looking for employees to volunteer individually or as part of a team.
Team Challenges
Why not get a team together to get out of the office, tackle something different, and have some fun? You'll also get to do something that's good for nature and will benefit the community.

What sorts of things could you do?
- Make a play area inviting for all the family by building benches and a picnic area
- Create an orchard in an overgrown patch of land
- Get stuck in building paths to make the site accessible to all visitors
- Plant wildflowers and create nature habitats
Individual Volunteers
We are also looking for individual volunteers who can contribute their personal skills to the project and support young people as they tackle practical challenges.
Practical? If you have experience of joinery, gardening, landscaping, or even arts & crafts you could help young people to build seating, create flower beds or make mosaics. Put your skills to great use on our practical projects.
Great with young people? Our young volunteers will be coming together from local schools, colleges and The University of York to help transform the site. If you have experience of working with young people, you could be the person to help them really achieve their potential over the project.
If you think you have any other skills that you could bring to the project, contact York Cares on 323482.
