Community Challenge: Youth

Want to have fun, make friends and do something good? We need dynamic young people to take on practical challenges to help transform this vital community space. It’s a great addition to any CV and it could net you a v award.

St Nicholas Fields is a community space and 24 acre nature reserve, which is in need of teams to overhaul their grounds to make them exciting and accessible to the whole community.

What can you do?

Morning team project: Tues 26 Oct

Afternoon team project: Tues 26 Oct 

When?

9.30am – 12.30pm

1.30 – 4.30pm

What?

Get your spade out! Tackle path-making and conservation. Have a dig and a bash!

What?

Give the site a facelift: brighten up play zones with painting or planting.

The Apprentice! Full day team project: Thurs 28 Oct

When?

9.30am – 4.30pm

What?

You will be given a team task to complete in just one day by our very own ‘Sir Alan Sugar’ from Northern Rail

Your team will be asked to:

  1.  Overhaul a busy area of St Nicholas Fields, to include:
    •  Design and create engaging art features
    •  Bring some colour with new plants and trees
    •  Build nature zones
    •  Reinvigorate exciting play and community areas
  2.  Present your plans and budget to ‘Nick’ and ‘Margaret’, executive coaches from a local company
  3.  Make use of local experts to help you realise your vision
  4.  Unveil your new-look areas to ‘Sir Alan’, the Lord Mayor of York, and family and friends at the end of the day

Two teams will compete and see their projects through from beginning to end
