Launching York's Volunteering Charter
Volunteering City York brings together key stakeholders from the voluntary, community and statutory sectors, with the aim of increasing regular volunteering in York. 2010 is York's Year of Volunteering and the Charter is one way of leaving a practical legacy for the city and its residents.
This occasion provides us with the chance to consider the challenges and opportunities ahead in light of the 'Big Society' and the current economic climate. We will consider the role that volunteering can play, in York, in meeting those challenges.
We are delighted to be supported by Angela Harrison, Chief Executive of York CVS, Kersten England, Chief Executive of City of York Council, John Lister, Chairman of York Cares (employee-volunteering charity), Alex Morton-Roberts, Locality Director of North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust and Prof Colin Mellors, Executive Chair of Higher York.
The Charter will make the case for volunteering and the invaluable benefits it brings; for individuals, organisations, and communities. We will be inviting local and national decision makers to pledge their support for the Volunteering Charter and asking for their help in addressing how, by working together, we might:
- provide an environment in which volunteering can thrive
- promote youth volunteering and,
- tackle worklessness through volunteering
