Could you help primary school children engage with reading, and improve their literacy?

Right to Read is well established, and has proved to be a very rewarding and popular project. York Cares currently maintains around 50 volunteers, helping 240 children in the city.

Volunteers work in sixteen local schools across York, and can make a minimum commitment of one hour a week (or fortnight if they share a placement with another volunteer), normally during lunchtime. No experience is necessary, as York Cares arrange a training session at the end of January with a local Deputy Head (former Literacy Consultant) which will demonstrate the recommended procedures for helping children to read.

You can find out more about Right to Read here and if you have any further questions, or would like to register your interest, please contact Georgina at York Cares, details below.

The next training session is on Friday 28th January, from 12-2pm.  To book a place, please contact us.
