York Children’s University

York Children’s University (York CU) is all about exciting children aged 5 –14 in learning through extra-curricular activities.

We focus on York’s most deprived communities and work closely with our School members, many of whom have higher numbers of children on free school meals. We want to inspire children and raise their aspirations for the future.

York CU is part of a national scheme led by the Children’s University Trust. Research undertaken by the University of Cambridge indicates that Children’s University activities help to foster a love of learning which has a positive impact on children’s attendance and achievement in school.

Through York CU, you can give children an insight into your business, offering unique ‘real-life’ learning activities and acting as a valuable role model. Our programme of activities provides simple ways for employers to get involved and inspire children’s dreams for the future!

CU Modules – develop a series of exciting and innovative sessions themed around your business area.

CU in the City – help deliver a university-style lecture or activity workshop about your industry for children and their families.

Right to Read – support children with their reading to boost literacy levels.

York CU Graduation – recognise children’s achievements at a special ceremony at the University of York.

York CU brings together a unique partnership of schools, employers, the two universities and arts and cultural attractions. The value of York Children’s University has been recognised by The Duke of York’s Community Initiative Award.
