Big Community Challenge 11,12,13 October 2016
To refresh and re-invigorate Hull Road Park as a hub for the community. In preparation for a new cafe and activities venue this traditional 25-acre park situated in Tang Hall, one of the more disadvantaged areas of York, is having a makeover! York Cares is working in partnership with local charity York Flourish who run the secret garden project in the park for people experiencing dementia, City of York Council , Tang Hall Community Centre and Urban Buzz. The aim is to enhance the park, provide more social and recreational opportunities for and improve health and well being of communities in the area, particularly families and older people.
The Big Community Challenge will involve a variety of tasks led by volunteers from Evora construction and the CYC environment and communities team . These tasks include: Converting a disused shower room into a tool store, redecorating parts of the pavilion, landscaping green spaces; cutting back and replanting bulbs, shrubs and trees, creating new pathways; a woodland walk and a stepping stones play path, refreshing the park furniture, creating a sign and composting area for the secret garden project.
We need teams of up to 10 employee volunteers to give 3 hours of their time. Teams can sign up for either a morning (9:30 -12:30) or afternoon session (13:30-16.30) on either the 11,12,13 October
