Social Connections Parties
Following the success of our Christmas parties we have decided to replicate this model a number of times throughout the year. This April we ran our first ever Easter Parties. The parties ran in four Independent Living Communities and one at York Hospital for people living with Dementia.
During the week we had 22 volunteers give up an hour of their time during the week to deliver activities for older people who may be experiencing loneliness and isolation.
Participants were able to take part in a range of activities from a movie classics sing along, bonnet decorating competitions and sunflower planting. Volunteers have said “Meeting with residents at this Easter party was a wonderful experience. It’s amazing to see that an activity that requires so little effort can be so appreciated and bring a smile to someone’s day”.
Our next parties will be held during the week commencing 15 July, we will be recruiting volunteers from our employee members to host a garden party for local older people in Care Homes and Independent Living Schemes.
