Team Challenge Week round-up
In the week of 14 October 2019, we had volunteers from six member organisations volunteering in various locations around York. The teams of employee-volunteers worked together to make positive change and developments to these community spaces.
On Tuesday, teams from Aviva, City of York Council (CYC) and Vangarde Shopping Park headed to York Cemetery where we had over 20 employee-volunteers split over the morning and afternoon. The volunteers spent their time cutting down the overgrown brambles and planting some bulbs that had been donated to the cemetery.
Wednesday’s teams, from Benenden Health, CYC, Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), Nestle and Vangarde, headed to Osprey Close Woodlands. Based on feedback from the local community, the volunteers set off on a mission to thin hedges down, clear brambles and barbed wire and develop footpaths. A day’s hard work has meant this area is now much more usable and we look forward to seeing this area grow further.
We had teams working in Glen Gardens on Thursday. There were around 20 employee-volunteers from JRF, Nestle and Vangarde who spent time making a compost bin for park volunteers to use as well as carrying out a general tidy of the green areas.
Overall it was a great week full of lots of smiles, hard work and team building and we are very thankful for all of our employee-volunteers for donating their time to transform green spaces in York.
