Working with older peoples’ homes and sheltered housing schemes across the city, teams of employees can contribute to the well-being of older people in York. Volunteers can host activities and events, or simply enjoy socialising with some of York’s older residents.

We are currently facing a change in the age structure of society with a growing number of people living longer. In order for us to respond to this demographic shift, it is important that we adapt to ensure that we tackle any challenges that this may bring. By supporting older people in York, employee-volunteers can have a positive impact on people’s lives at a time when vulnerability and isolation can be high.

Tea Parties: host a tea party for a group of older people and socialise over tea and cake.

Crafternoons: support a craft activity such as card making with a group of older people.

Games Sessions: bring out your competitive side by hosting a games session.

Seasonal activities: encourage older people to get outside during the summer months and help them get into the festive spirit at Christmas.
