Christmas Collections 2023

Showing that York Cares at Christmas is always an important part of our calendar, and this year is no exception. Our Christmas Collection campaign is now live and 12 not-for-profit organisations have submitted their wishlists and in total they need over 6,000 items.

The Christmas Collections bring together donations from our members of essential items as well as Christmas gifts and treats. These vital and greatly appreciated donations are then delivered to charities supporting vulnerable and isolated people in York this Christmas.

This year the campaign is supporting Door 84, Kyra, Refugee Action York, SASH, Spirit of Christmas, The Island, Peasholme Resettlement Centre, Speak Up, How Hill, Changing Lives, York Foodbank and Community Links. The wish lists from the charities include toiletries, food, warm clothing, toys and gifts.

When asked about the difference that the collections make or Door 84, Heidi Haywood, Executive Manager said, ”The Christmas Collections make such a huge difference. It allows some relief in the current pressures and creates a supportive, community feel. The donations go to a range of families and community members who access Door 84. Receiving the support from a trusted place is an extremely important part of the process to help reduce stigma and increase the amount of beneficiaries. We are so grateful to York Cares and the supporters who made this magic happen.”

How can you help?

We are looking for organisations who can support this year’s Christmas Collections through donating much needed items from the wishlists, who can be collection points for donations, and who can encourage colleagues to get involved.

To get involved, view the Christmas Wishlist 2023. If you cannot access Google Sheets, please contact Ebba who can send the information across in an alternative format.
