Doing a placement at York Cares

My time at York Cares has blown away all my expectations when coming into the role. It is coming up to six months since joining York Cares as the placement year student, and my time since then has involved a multitude of different experiences, allowing me to expand my skills and learn new ones.

The most valuable aspect of my experience has been the freedom and trust given to me as I manage the Team Challenges program. This has allowed me to flourish, bringing in new ideas to the program, and being given the opportunity to implement them.

Moreover, through managing the Team Challenges program, I get the opportunity to be outdoors throughout York on a regular basis. This allows me to visibly see the positive impact my work has, leading to a huge sense of fulfilment in my role.

I have also been given the opportunity to help manage large scale projects such as the Big Community Challenge. This has given me insight into all the different aspects that come together, such as marketing, logistics, and financing, that come together to put on a successful event.

Finally, due to the friendly and supportive environment at York Cares, I have learnt so much from my colleagues and have felt supported throughout my time here.
