Guest Blog, Fleur Stubbs, Nestlé

Our Ambassadors play a huge role in engaging volunteers within their organisation as well as supporting York Cares through insights and feedback with the team to help ensure that we’re best supporting our members. Fleur was our Ambassador at Nestlé until recently and she has written a guest blog to share her experience of being a York Cares Ambassador.
Thank you for all the support Fleur!

‘I became Nestlé’s York Cares Ambassador back in September 2019, after a colleague was ready to pass the position on. I volunteer for a local charity in my spare time already, so was keen to explore and encourage volunteering in a professional capacity.

I first incorporated the Ambassador role by adding employee-volunteering to the agenda of the induction day for new starters and arranged for a Project Officer from York Cares to speak about the charity and their programmes. I then looked into developing the volunteering page on Workplace, a business social media tool, which generated a lot of volunteering uptake, as well as providing employees with a platform to share their stories or look for opportunities to help.

The sense of achievement after giving back to the community as an individual or part of a team and positively representing your employer puts everything in perspective and promotes self-awareness, self-confidence and self-esteem, all contributing to a healthier well-being. It’s been so inspiring to have so many staff members offering to volunteer and getting in contact, especially during the pandemic – their work with York Cares’ programmes helped reduce isolation and loneliness for local people and improve green spaces as part of the Big Community Challenge the past few years.

With the Ambassador role being so flexible and fun, what you put in is what you get out! Getting involved with York Cares’ activities has been the highlight for me and seeing the impact this has first-hand is an incredibly humbling experience.’
