Introducing Ebba Wadlan

Although I have only been with York Cares for a few weeks it has already been an amazing experience. I have taken a year out of my degree in Politics and International Relations at the University of York to pursue a placement with York Cares in order to gain some experience before I finish my degree. I can already tell this is the best decision I could have made for myself.

Working on the Environment and Sustainability Programme has already allowed me to connect with Community Partners as well as our members from all over York. Although at first a daunting task, working on Community Challenges has allowed me to grow skills I had learnt through my degree as well as my confidence. Being able to apply my skills in a work-place environment has allowed me to grow as well as connect with the community that I have lived in for three years while I have been working on my degree.

Working at York Cares is going to be a very fulfilling role as not only will I gain experience, but I also get to see the amazing effects that the charity has on the community. Being in such a tight-knit team as well has allowed me to experience the other programmes such as Aspirations and Social Connections, both of which are amazing programmes which give back to the community in a way I have not seen or experienced before. By seeing the behind the scenes of this amazing charity it is very clear why York has such a strong community spirit. I feel very lucky to have a placement that will not only help me improve as an individual but is also so fulfilling.

I am looking forward to continuing growing my skills at York Cares and meeting all of our amazing Community Partners and Volunteers. I am particularly excited for our Environment & Sustainability Week that is coming up in October as well as working on our Christmas Collections in which our members can donate much needed items to amazing charities in York.
