Introducing Hannah Corkery

Having joined York Cares as the Volunteering Project Officer for Aspirations just over two weeks ago, I already feel I have hit the ground running. I have been warmly welcomed by my new colleagues and have been spending my time learning about the programme streams that make up our offer. An exciting visit to a summer party hosted by Nestle – complete with lovely chocolate treats! – concluded my first week. I enjoyed meeting volunteers and attendees of our Social Connections programme and seeing everyone come together.

I will be delivering our Aspirations programmes which are organised into nine different streams supporting education and further learning in schools and the broader York community. I am excited to get our Right to Read programme running again as the new academic year begins; I look forward to working with volunteers to support schools in offering students more opportunities to improve their literacy.

I shall also be leading York Cares’ partnership with the Westfield Centre, a new collaboration between City of York Council, schools and other partners to support delivery of educational activities and develop employability opportunities and training for people in the Westfield area. I hope to bring insight and creative ideas to this project and am delighted by the opportunity to work collaboratively with our volunteers and employers to deliver a variety of meaningful activities.
