Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. We all have mental health and, for many, the pandemic has had a negative impact on their mental health.

York Cares has been exploring how we can make mental health and wellbeing  an integral part of our programmes going forward.  We look forward to keeping you up to date on  new opportunities which may arise over the next year.

Social Connections is one of York Cares  key programmes, providing opportunities for employee-volunteers to support older people in the city with the aim of reducing loneliness and social isolation. Feeling lonely can have a detrimental impact on mental health and levels of loneliness have increased as a result of the pandemic. To try and address this, we are working hard to provide opportunities to bring people together and create connections.

Key highlights have been  the ‘Magic of Christmas’ project we delivered in partnership with Dandelion Arts;  hosting Christmas parties at Independent Living Communities throughout York and more recently delivering Tea and Tech sessions. We are also looking forward to hosting Jubilee parties this month.
