Our partnership with The Place

We are delighted to be working in partnership with The Place and to celebrate its opening week!

The Place, based in Sanderson House, will provide activities and new opportunities for children, young people and adults living in the Westfield area; raising aspirations through education, The Place is a collaborative project between the local community, the University of York, Westfield Primary, York High School, and other community partners. York Cares will be working to deliver employability activity and promote access to broader opportunities, together with our member employers and The Place. We are very excited for this partnership to develop.

Starting with a bang, the centre opened over half term with an exciting rota of activities for children and the whole community. Our Aspirations officer, Hannah Corkery was on hand on Monday for colouring and a lesson in loombands, whilst local residents and partners – including our manager Holly Hennell – dropped by for a cuppa and to see the newly renovated space. Wednesday brought a flurry of activity as local children and parents visited for a day of doodling, jigsaws and boardgames. Going forward we will be working with The Place to develop more opportunities for learning and development, drawing on the skills and expertise of our wonderful employee-volunteers. Stay tuned.
